As the economy continues to recover, competition for talent will heat up and employers in the hospitality industry will need to be more creative and proactive to attract top talent. Well-qualified candidates always have options. Just think with the click of a button they can explore multiple job opportunities and respond to them all simultaneously, while texting, 'friending' and surfing.
Today's savvy workers are your new consumers and they expect to be sold. They want to know why your company is a good choice for them and what they will gain from working for you. If you are one of those hotels that are concerned about attracting and retaining top talent, it's time to look for ways to communicate a compelling story about why your company is a desirable place to work. How can you stand out from the crowd and attract the best talent? Here are some tips to give you an edge:
1. Be Socially Responsible
Generation Y, or Millennials, place increased emphasis on factors such as "company image and reputation" and "company culture". This means to attract top talent you will need to highlight your work-life initiatives such as community involvement and cultural change initiatives, and prove you are responsible not only to your workers, but to society as well.
The Class of 2011 study shows that in addition to career advancement, competitive salary and challenging work, the future workforce is looking to join organizations whose cultures reflect a positive image of social responsibility. The study, conducted in partnership by I Love Rewards and Experience Inc., is based on results of a February online survey of more than 8,000 U.S. university students who planned to graduate this year or next.
