Wyndham Expands Brand in Washington Area
Re-flags Timeshare Resort in Old Town Alexandria as Wyndham Property
APRIL 26, 2007. Wyndham Vacation Ownership, the world's largest vacation ownership company and a member of the Wyndham Worldwide family of companies (NYSE:WYN) , today announced that is has expanded Wyndham's presence in the metro Washington area by unveiling one of its premier resorts in Old Town Alexandria under the Wyndham flag. This change marks one of the first milestones in the recently-announced re-branding initiative. The number of Wyndham resorts in the Washington D.C. area will expand to two with the scheduled opening of a Wyndham Vacation Ownership resort at the National Harbor entertainment complex in Prince George's County, Maryland in 2009.
Fairfield Washington, D.C. at Old Town Alexandria will now be known as Wyndham Old Town Alexandria. This property is affiliated with the company's FairShare Plus portfolio of vacation ownership resorts. All exterior and interior signage, collateral and marketing materials will reflect the Wyndham brand.
"When we unveiled this resort it quickly became one of the fastest selling properties in our entire system which is a testament to the popularity of the area among our owners," said Franz Hanning, Wyndham Vacation Ownership president and chief executive officer. "Carrying the Wyndham name underscores our growth strategy to broaden our timeshare business to a wider audience in the metro Washington area and throughout the marketplace."
Opened in 1999, Wyndham Old Town Alexandria boasts more than 5,000 owners and features 88 condominium-style units. An additional Wyndham Vacation Ownership timeshare resort is in development at National Harbor and is expected to open in 2009.
In October 2006, Wyndham Vacation Ownership announced that it would re- brand its industry-leading timeshare companies - Fairfield Resorts, Trendwest Resorts and Trendwest South Pacific - under the Wyndham brand. The re- branding process is anticipated to occur over 12 months.
