Q Station Joins Unique Venues
FEBRUARY 11, 2008. Unique Venues, the hotels, resorts and venues division of DMS Destination Marketing Services, today announced its appointment as the Australian and New Zealand conference sales representative for one of Sydney's latest and highly innovative cultural tourism attractions, Q Station.
Q Station is the new brand for the former Quarantine Station, a nationally listed historic site that has undergone a careful $18 million restoration process and in April 2008, Q Station will open its historic listed conference and accommodation facilities.
"Unique Venues has a strong representation reputation in the local conference and incentive markets and their prestigious and eclectic portfolio of worldwide properties with a difference, fits in perfectly with the contemporary refurbishment of the Quarantine Station to Q Station," said Simon McArthur, General Manager of Q Station.
"Our vision is to create powerfully inspiring experiences at this Sydney icon as event organisers are always seeking interesting ways to engage their delegates. We believe Q Station's wonderful experiences from immersion theatre, dinner on the harbour and destination spa as well as its spectacular Sydney Harbour, bush and beach scenery will do exactly this," he said.
Delegates at Q Station will have many options to experience the area and make connections - whether it is with the past, present or future. Through the powerful medium of immersion theatre and the aptly titled defiance play, delegates can go back in time and watch the stories of real people from the Quarantine Station days acted out in the setting of the authentic buildings and then shoot forward to 2020 to watch a future story unfold. Alternatively, delegates can reflect on the present from the comfort of their balcony and enjoy the serene surrounds, or watch the black cockatoos or sea eagles that sometimes pay a visit.
The property's features include:
o 82 bedrooms with the original style maintained and a capacity of 120 people in private function rooms;
o Seven conference rooms flooded with natural light, timber floors and breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour and the surrounding bushland;
o The Boilerhouse Restaurant offering modern Australian cuisine;
o A range of group activities available including storytelling tours that give a historic dimension as well as making them relevant to today *; interactive immersion theatre; kayaking, snorkelling and walking tours;
o A Destination Spa offering Aboriginal-inspired and other treatments (operational by September 2008);
o Easy accessibility with a variety of transport methods including 30 minutes drive or water taxi from the city and a special Q Station bus with transfers from Manly.
About Q Station
The site is located five minutes from Manly in the bushland of Sydney Harbour National Park. As the former Quarantine Station, it was used for over 150 years as a temporary facility for ill migrants before settling permanently in Australia. Alongside the Sydney Opera House, the area has been classified as part of the National Estate - one level below World Heritage significance. The site is currently under restoration and although not fully operational, select tours are running.
As an innovative sustainable tourism operation which has taken 10 years to complete, it has been the mission of Q Station to provide visitors with the opportunity to experience and enjoy the heritage site - with enthusiastic interest expected to come from the business events and incentives market.
The Unique Venues collection also includes Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Raffles Hotels & Resorts (Worldwide); Nirwana Gardens Resort (Bintan Island); Furama Resort Danang (Vietnam); bellachara boutique hotel gerringong and ZEST@Royal Motor Yacht Club (Australia).
