Rob Evans Named GM Holiday Inn in Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE, IN, May 29, 2008. IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) [LON:IHG, NYSE:IHG (ADRs)], one of the world's largest hotel groups by number of rooms, has named Rob Evans the general manager of the under-construction Holiday Inn hotel in Fort Wayne, Indiana located at 4111 Paul Shaffer Drive near IPFW and Coliseum.
Evans, who served as general manager of the downtown Fort Wayne Hilton hotel, returns to Fort Wayne from his native Canada where he most recently served as president and CEO of the Ontario Restaurant Association (ORHMA).
"We are pleased that Rob will lead the hospitality team at our new Fort Wayne property when it opens in late summer," said Shawn Bowman, vice president of marketing for Focus Hospitality Services. "With more than 30 years of experience in this demanding industry, he is well equipped to present this new, full service hotel as a flagship Holiday Inn in the this market. It is an obvious and added benefit that Rob is not only familiar with this community, but he is an established member of the business community."
In early 2007, Evans was appointed president and CEO of the Ontario Restaurant Association, the largest provincial hospitality industry association in Canada. For more than 25 years, he has held senior position in both the foodservice and accommodation sectors in Canada and the U.S. Prior to accepting the position with ORHMA, Evans worked with an Atlanta-based hotel ownership and management company, Lodgian.
Evans joined Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts (now Fairmont Hotels) after graduation from college and worked at three different hotels in St. Andrews, Toronto and Kananaskis Village. He subsequently spent 10 years in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he worked for the Westin Nova Scotian and The Prince George Hotel before relocating to Windsor, Ontario. He moved to Fort Wayne in 2000 to manage that city's downtown Hilton.
In addition to his earlier hotel experience in Canada and Fort Wayne, Rob Evans served two terms as president of the Nova Scotia Restaurant & Foodservices Association, and is a past president of the Windsor Chapter - Ontario Restaurant Hotel & Motel Association, and a past executive member of the overall organization.
