Maurizio Romani Appointed GM Aquapura Douro Valley Resort

MAY 30, 2008. Maurizio Romani has joined aquapura douro valley, the new luxury destination hotel in Portugal's Douro Valley as General Manager.

With a career spanning 20 years in the hospitality sector, Maurizio brings with him a wealth of experience to the brand. Prior to taking up his new role at aquapura douro valley Maurizio was General Manager of Hotel L'Andana, Castiglione della Pescaia, Tuscany also in a Leading Small Luxury Hotel of the World for three years. He has previously worked for Forte Hotels (Grosvenor House Hotel, London), Sheraton (Hotel Danieli, Venice) and Le Meridien (Forte Village Resort, Sardinia).

Maurizio will manage all operational efforts with a focus on further enhancing aquapura douro valley's reputation as the best hotel in Portugal, as voted Expresso Newspaper (Portugal's leading weekly). Maurizio replaces Lionel Alvarez who recently transferred to Las Ventanas al Paraiso, Mexico, a Rosewood Resort.

aquapura douro valley is in the Douro Valley in northern Portugal. The resort lies between the river and the vineyards, in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Douro Region which has been producing wine for nearly two thousand years. The hotel incorporates a striking 19th Century Manor House, which was formerly home to the Vale Abra~ao farm. The Lisbon based architect, Lu'is Rebelo de Andrade, has combined the period property with a contemporary extension.

The luxury hotel development has three separate elements:

o hotel - 50 rooms including eight suites and one presidential suite

o spa - 2,200 m^2

o villas - 21 residences
