Melting Pot Restaurants Expands Into Canada

Fondue franchise launches first international locations in Alberta and Vancouver

. March 04, 2009

The Melting Pot Restaurants, Inc. announces the franchise's growth into Canada with the first four locations outside of the U.S. (Edmonton, Calgary and two in Vancouver) under the local ownership of Heidi Wagner.

"We looked at our long term growth strategy and realized the brand is in high demand with phenomenal reception outside of the U.S.," says Dan Stone, director of franchise sales. "Canada was our most logical choice to begin international expansion due to existing brand recognition and its proximity to the U.S. In addition, our research indicates that our restaurants do very well in colder climates."

The Edmonton location is slated to open in early 2010, Calgary is slated for early 2011, and the two Vancouver locations are expected to be ready in early 2012 and 2013.

Stone envisions expanding to 15 locations throughout Canada including restaurants in Toronto, Ottawa, London, Hamilton and eventually the province of Quebec.

In addition to the four units already sold in Canada, The Melting Pot plans to sell 10 more international units by the end of 2009. Stone's team is working with Edwards Global Services, Inc. to consider investors and candidates in Japan, Dubai, South Korea, Vietnam, Mexico, China, India, Brazil and select European markets.

With more than 142 restaurants nationwide, existing locations in 37 states including the District of Columbia, and more than 28 locations currently in development, The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc. is the country's premier fondue restaurant franchise.
