Fairmont's Green Partnership Recognized
Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program
NOVEMBER 14, 2006. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announced the latest accolade for its industry leading environmental program. On November 9, 2006, during the annual Hospitality Awards ceremony in Paris, France, Fairmont received the designation as Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program for its Green Partnership program. The award recognizes the best example of environmental and humanitarian activity, sustainable development, and the involvement of local populations by hotel groups throughout the world. The Worldwide Hospitality Awards were presented by the MKG Group, an organization associated with HTR Magazine.
Jeff Senior, Fairmont's Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales, accepted the award on the company's behalf. ' We're very proud to have Fairmont's Green Partnership program recognized with this prestigious award. This designation is the culmination of 16 years of comprehensive environmental programs and policies and speaks to the level of dedication of our colleagues worldwide. Fairmont is a strong advocate of environmental conservation and we recognize the value of sustainability within our operations.'
Fairmont has been a committed environmental steward since 1990 with the development of the company's comprehensive Green Partnership program, designed to minimize the hotel company's operating impacts on the environment. The program focuses on improvements in the areas of waste management, energy and water conservation, as well as a strong element of community outreach through local groups and partnerships. Recently, the brand launched wind powered check-in by purchasing Eco-Logo certified wind power from the Pembina Institute for front desk computers at its North American properties, resulting in a greenhouse gas reduction of almost 100 tonnes over the next year. In addition, guests now have opportunities to 'go green' through its Eco-Innovation Signature programs that offer enriching experiences, such as sea turtle conservation in Mexico and the Caribbean, preserving a nature trail in Sonoma County, California, and educational activities for children across the portfolio.
