KUALA LUMPUR, November 3, 2005. Federal Hotels International (FHI) has over four decades of experience in the Hospitality industry. FHI manages three Hotels in Kuala Lumpur, one Hotel in Penang and one Hotel in Sydney namely Crown Princess Kuala Lumpur, The Federal Kuala Lumpur, Hotel Capitol Kuala Lumpur, Ferringhi Beach Hotel Penang and The Grace Sydney. FHI is a pioneer Malaysian Hotel Management Company, established to manage the First International Hotel in Kuala Lumpur i.e. The Federal Kuala Lumpur. FHI fine collection of Hotels is located in some sensational locations, from the heart of the City's central business district to the pulse of the best shopping, entertainment and gourmet paradise to the famed Batu Ferringhi beach.

The Federal Kuala Lumpur is more than a Hotel. It's a piece of Malaysian History & Heritage, and it's the Hotel for Merdeka. The Federal Hotel celebrates its birthday as the Nation celebrates its Independence Day in August each year. Merdeka Day has always been part of Federal Hotel's history as the Hotel was built specifically to serve the needs of our Nation. The 90-room 9-storey Hotel first opened its doors on 28 August 1957 to welcome all VIPs, foreign dignitaries and diplomats who arrived in Kuala Lumpur to witness Malaya celebrate her independence on 31 August 1957.

Bapa Malaysia, our first Prime Minister of Malaysia, the late Y.T.M. Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, officiated the opening of The Federal Hotel three days before Merdeka, just in time for the Merdeka Celebrations 48 years ago. From that moment on, The Federal Hotel became the choice for all VIPs and renowned personalities who came over to Kuala Lumpur, as the Federal Hotel was, for many years, considered 'The Hotel' in the Country. It is therefore fitting that the 48th Anniversary of the Hotel be celebrated in honor of the memory of the late Tunku. We feel particularly proud as "The Hotel was then the venue for official banquet reception and functions hosted by the Government and private sector alike as well as the official caterer of cocktails and dinners at Parliament House."

Ms Ooi Lee Ping, Deputy Director of Marketing, Regional Sales & Business Development of Federal Hotels International said "To commemorate the 48th Birthday of Malaysia and The Federal Kuala Lumpur (or The Hotel for Merdeka), the Team of Federal Hotels International and The Federal Kuala Lumpur (The Federal Team) decided to produce a 168-page coffee table cookbook, which is a fascinating Chef's journey, a combination of our traditional local and Western recipes but most importantly this legacy cookbook is our Federal Hotels International and The Federal Kuala Lumpur's tribute dedicated to our Malaysia's beloved first Prime Minister or our Father of Independence. The Federal Team mooted the idea to compile this coffee table cookbook in September 2003 to preserve the legacy and well loved timeless recipes of Tunku's favourite dishes, and hope that all Malaysians may also experience the culinary pleasures of the Royal family. Favourite Dishes from the Tunku's Kitchen is a coffee-table size compendium of private recipes collected. The Team of Federal Hotels International and The Federal Kuala Lumpur, hope to preserve the Country's and other culinary dishes, which is an important part of our heritage, for the enjoyment of our future generations".

A lot has been written about Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Y.T.M. Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. A lesser-known trait of Tunku or Bapa Malaysia, as he has been fondly known by generations of Malaysians, is his passion for food. Tunku loved to take charge of the kitchen and enjoyed cooking as much as eating.

For the first time, a collection of over seventy recipes of Tunku's much-loved family favourite recipes of Chicken Kurma (Ayam Kurma) Anchovies with Petai (Ikan Bilis dan Petai), Roast Duck in Gravy (Itik Golek), Roast Beef (Daging Bakar), Crabs in Spicy Sauce (Ketam Masak Pedas), Fish Fillet (Otak-Otak), Preserved Fruit Pickle (Acar Buah), Fried Tamarind Prawns (Udang Goreng Asam), Sambal Tunku, Coconut Custard (Seri Kaya Kelapa Muda) together with other favourite foods of the famous Statesman are compiled and presented in good wholesome simplicity. The cuisine was prepared by the Federal's Team of Chefs, supervised by Tunku's niece, Y.T.M. Dato' Hajah Tunku Mukminah Mohd Jiwa.
