. October 14, 2008

THE CARIBBEAN, December 12, 2005. Can you believe it? It will be the Dwight versus Becks show this summer as Trinidad and Tobago take on England in football's World Cup! As the island's Soca Warriors team led by Dwight York was drawn in the same group as David Beckham and his men, tourism representatives on the island rubbed their hands with glee!

Previously only Jamaica, Haiti and Cuba have represented the Caribbean on football's world stage but now Trinidad and Tobago has earned a ticket to Germany next summer to play their dream match. The island's tourist board, both on island and in the UK, are already working hard on exploiting the confrontation in a bid to boost visitor numbers.UK Manager Nova Alexander said, "We could not have asked for a better draw. We will be announcing a number of World Cup related promotions and iniatives in the near future."

Some well known past and present names from the British soccer scene, including Dwight Yorke, Shaka Hislop and Stern John and the only white man to have represented the islands, Port Vale's Chris Birchall, have played key roles in helping the Trinidad and Tobago team win through to the finals where they will line up alongside the world's best including Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany and of course England
