Sheraton Portland Unveils Renovation

. October 14, 2008

PORTLAND, OR, March 1, 2006. As jets descend onto the runways of Portland International Airport, the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel has opened its doors on the newest design in the hotel's 32-year history.

Upholding its position as the premier lodging and meeting destination at the state's growing travel hub, the hotel has nearly completed the first phase of a new $5 million remodeling project. The upgrades include a grand lobby entrance with vaulted ceilings opening the area to abundant natural light, a new 2,500 square-foot meeting room and a complete remodeling and upgrade to many of the hotel's 213 guest rooms.

The new look was inspired by the design of Ralph Lauren, which is reflected in the rich earth tones, leather and suede materials, paisley and plaid upholstery, and marble. New exterior landscaping will be completed in early spring. "We want our guests to walk in and feel at home. Now, not only do we have friendly hosts welcoming them to Portland, our guests will have more comfortable places to relax, socialize and connect with their associates," said Harold Pollin, the owner of the Sheraton Portland Airport and a long-time booster of the Portland and Oregon tourism industry. "As one of the closest hotels to Portland International Airport, it's our job to be the best ambassadors for the port and city we can be."

Nearly 14 million passengers traveled through Portland International Airport in 2005, an increase of 6.5 percent over 2004. That growth, attributed to new airline routes, increased service and the growing popularity of Portland, contributes to the long-term success of the Sheraton airport location. The hotel, located at 8235 N.E. Airport Way, caters to business travelers, which make up 70 percent of its clientele. Yet the hotel is extremely popular with leisure travelers, especially those who choose to stay before they leave on a trip.

Among other amenities, it offers 15 versatile conference and banquet rooms with over 22,500 square feet of meeting and event space; free "WiFi" wireless Internet access in all guest rooms and public areas, plus wired high-speed Internet available in its meeting facilities. "We applaud the Sheraton on the exciting new improvements that will surely make a positive impression on our airport customers," said Mary Maxwell, Port of Portland aviation director. "We appreciate the Sheraton's service here for more than 30 years, and its commitment to serving an ever-growing number of airport travelers."
