Langham Hotel, Auckland Completes NZ$12 mil Transformation

. October 14, 2008

AUKLAND, NZ, March 10, 2006. The Langham Hotel, Auckland has gone against the current minimalist d'ecor trend creating an elegant and opulent new environment befitting that of an authentic five-star hotel. The dramatic new look follows a NZ$12 million transformation of the Symonds Street property which was completed last month. The newly-refurbished hotel took its design cues from flagship sister property, the Langham Hotel, London, after recognising a fall in favour for minimalist d'ecor among international travellers.

The Langham Hotel, Auckland's General Manager, John Dick, says the London hotel dates back to 1865 and has a traditional look and feel, with modern amenities, facilities and d'ecor. "Our guests expect a true five-star environment when they stay at the Langham Hotel, Auckland, but they also want hints of home."

"Our newly-refurbished 410-rooms are a reflection of this increasing preference and feature elegant new floor to ceiling drapes, antique-styled furniture and lights, large desks, plush bedding, scented pillows, warm teal, gold and chocolate tones, and quality amenities such as Egyptian linen and bone china crockery."

Guests staying in the new Langham Hotel Club Rooms can enjoy 42 inch plasma televisions, luxurious Langham signature pillows complimented with sumptuous linen, dramatic burr walnut bed headboards, elegant and comfortable chairs, new carpet, curtains and light fittings, distinctive local artwork and decorative mirrors, as well as enhanced bathroom and in-room amenities.

The hotel has also enhanced its Business Centre and introduced high speed broadband internet access in each room ensuring those needing to work while away from home or the office can do so. Newly installed 'hush' glass screens cut out surrounding city noises ensuring a peaceful night's sleep.

The impressive transformation of the 23-year-old hotel is apparent the minute you walk through its main doors. The lobby now features a spectacular centralized dome with ornate coving, chandelier lighting above an intricately custom-made circular rug, and antique furniture lit by tasteful lamps.

Popular lobby bar, The Winery, has been transformed with a shimmering chandelier, luxurious carpet, high-back upholstered chairs and a greatly expanded food and beverage menu.

The hotel's new interior was created by Auckland-based Raj Design which has extensive experience in luxury hotel refits. Raj Design also worked closely with signature chef, Marc Soper, (2005 Chef of the Year), in the creation of his new restaurant, Partingtons at The Langham.

While located within the lobby of the Langham Hotel, Auckland, Partingtons at The Langham operates as a stand-alone restaurant with Chef Soper at the helm. Diners will be impressed by Chef Soper's modern European-inspired cuisine combined with fresh New Zealand flavours. His menus are matched by a truly magnificent wine list featuring 350 wines hand selected by an experienced sommelier.

Flamboyant drapes, which part to reveal chandeliers sparkling from a 'trompe l'oeil' sky ceiling, set the scene for the creative cuisine and exemplary service diners can expect to enjoy at Partingtons at The Langham. The restaurant is open for dinner Tuesday to Sunday from 6pm and reservations are recommended. Mr Dick says the hotel's opulent new look, combined with genuine Langham service, offers guests a truly international five-star experience.

"We are very excited about the completion of the renovation which sets a new standard in terms of product and service delivery within the New Zealand tourism industry. Feedback from both guests and trade to our new rooms has been overwhelmingly positive and we are thrilled to have Chef Soper aligned with the hotel enabling both in-house and casual diners to enjoy highly creative and exciting cuisine within his spectacular new restaurant, Partingtons at The Langham."
