. October 14, 2008

ONTARIO, Canada, March 27, 2006. A new Chinese-language tourism website is being launched to highlight Ontario's many attractions for potential Chinese visitors.

"This new website provides valuable information about Ontario's tourism destinations and will help increase awareness of Ontario's attractions for Chinese travellers," said Ontario Tourism Minister Jim Bradley who is leading a delegation to China. "Promoting our province in China, which is forecast to become the world's largest source of international tourists, is important to the future of our tourism industry."

The Mandarin (simplified Chinese) website, a consumer information tool created by the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC), will help attract tourists from the Chinese market. The micro site promotes Ontario as a warm, welcoming place with an array of diverse and exciting attractions to enjoy.

The site, accessible from the main www.ontariotravel.net homepage, features vibrant, colourful scenes from around the province and profiles seven areas: Toronto, Ottawa, Niagara Falls, Southwestern Ontario, Eastern Ontario, Central Ontario and Northern Ontario.

Visitors to the website can explore the unique features and seasonal activities each city or region has to offer and access important links to information sources, such as regional destination marketing organizations and other tourism partners. General information about Ontario, such as currency, immigration, transportation and road rules, and public holidays, is also available.

A new Chinese-language brochure will also be launched during the visit to market Ontario to tour operators, travel media and consumers in China. The first-ever consumer publication for the mainland China market, it promotes Ontario's diverse tourism offerings and travel experiences and includes theatre, wineries, shopping, dining and seasonal activities such as winter festivals, fall colours and fairs.

"We are thrilled to launch the new Chinese website and promotional brochure to entice more Chinese tourists to our province," said Sandra McInnis, OTMPC President & CEO, and part of the delegation. "These marketing initiatives support our ongoing tourism efforts in China and show potential overseas visitors how much Ontario has to offer by showcasing the many exciting experiences to discover here. We are also very pleased to promote the Chinese Lantern Festival at Ontario Place from July - October 2006."

China is an important and growing tourism market in Asia. By 2020, the number of outbound Chinese travellers is expected to reach 100 million annually.
