New Castle Hotels & Resorts Announces Vice President and Director Level Appointments
SHELTON, CT, May 17, 2006. New Castle Hotels & Resorts, a leading third-party manager, and owner/developer of properties throughout the United States and Canada, announces the following promotions:
Vince Barrett, who has served as the company's corporate director of food and beverage, has been promoted to vice president of food and beverage. Barrett joined New Castle in 1996 and also serves as general manager of the Shelton Courtyard by Marriott, which New Castle owns and manages. Barrett has been instrumental in setting food and beverage standards for New Castle properties and defining the company's culinary identity.
Under his leadership, the company has launched numerous successful concepts and programs, including Caf'e Pronto, New Castle branded coffee in guestrooms, and a training program for catering professionals. He is the managing director of New Castle's purchasing subsidiary, Provender LLC. A resident of Berkley, Mass., prior to joining New Castle, he owned and operated Network Hospitality Consultants Inc. He also formerly worked with Interstate Hotels.
Guido Kerpel, general manager of New Castle's award-winning Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has been promoted to regional vice president. Kerpel will oversee management and marketing efforts for New Castle's Canadian properties, including the Nova Scotia's trio of Signature Resorts - Liscombe Lodge, The Pines Resort and Keltic Lodge.
Kerpel has served as the Westin's general manager since New Castle acquired, renovated and reopened the property in 1996. Under his leadership, the Nova Scotian has garnered such honors as being consistently named one of the best hotels in the world by readers of Conde Nast Traveler.
Don Urbahn has been promoted to corporate director of revenue management. Urbahn has served as general manager of New Castle's Courtyard by Marriott in Burlington, Vt. since the property's opening. Under his leadership, the property increased profitiability by 23 percent in a single year.
Prior to joining New Castle in 1993, he was a general manager with Vista Host Hotels Group. A past chairman of the Vermont Lodging and Restaurant Association, Urbahn is also a past board member of the Vermont Convention and Visitors Bureau. He is certified as a hospitality marketing executive by HSMAI.
