MINNEAPOLIS, MN, June 20, 2006. Teledex, LLC announced today at the HITEC hospitality industry technology exposition and conference in Minneapolis the availability of the company's new DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) cordless guestroom phones. The new phones, available in either 1.9 GHz or 1.8 GHz versions, offer worldwide compatibility with the various region-by-region frequency assignments for cordless telephones.
Besides this universal acceptance, the new phones offer several new features of interest to hoteliers and hotel operating companies.
The model series for each is as follows:
DCT1900 series - Single-line 1.9 GHz
DCT1800 series - Single-line 1.8 GHz
DCT2900 series - Two-line 1.9 GHz
DCT2800 series -Two-line 1.8 GHz
About DECT Technology
Initially popular in Europe, DECT technology is gaining acceptance as the emerging standard for cordless phone technology in the United States as well. In 2005, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) relaxed frequency spectrum licensing requirements and costs associated with the use of DECT products in the U.S., clearing the way for adoption of the technology and frequency band in the U.S. Cordless telephones operating in the 1.9 GHz band are suitable for use in the United States and select non-European countries. Cordless telephones operating in the 1.8 GHz band are suitable for use in most countries in Europe.
New Features Offer Enhanced Functionality and Value
The new phones offer several new features that enhance their value to the hotel industry. Among them are: full duplex speakerphone; courtesy ringer; adaptive power management; and full lifeline support.
Full-Duplex Speakerphone
The new Teledex cordless phones are the first to offer a full-duplex speakerphone in a hospitality cordless telephone. Full duplex speakerphones provide a much higher quality speakerphone experience to both parties engaged in a call, whether one or both parties are using the speakerphone. Because the microphone and speaker are continually active (rather than continually switching on and off to avoid feedback or distortion, as with half-duplex speakerphone designs) in a full-duplex speakerphone, conversations are clearer and capture every nuance of a caller's voice more fully, resulting in better perceptions of voice quality and usability by the user.
Courtesy Ringer
The new cordless phones include Teledex's new CourtesyRing feature, which allows a caller to select a ring pattern that begins by ringing the phone softly on the first ring, then gradually increases the ring volume with each successive ring until answered. The feature is a benefit for guests who do not wish to be jarred from their sleep needlessly, but still do not want to miss a wakeup call or other important call. The feature is user-selectable using a switch on the telephone.
Adaptive Power Management
The new phones include Teledex's adaptive power management feature, that helps to avoid interference with other devices on the same frequency, such as other cordless phones that may be in use nearby. When the cordless handset and base are in close proximity, the phone operates at a minimal power output. As the handset and base become separated by a greater distance, output power is increased to maintain excellent signal strength, ensuring high levels of call quality and guest satisfaction.
Lifeline Support
One of the concerns over using cordless telephones in a hospitality environment is the need for lifeline support (the ability to use the telephone in the event of a power failure). The new Teledex DECT cordless phones address the issue, by allowing the use of the base unit to make and receive calls in the event of a power failure, as long as an uninterruptible power supply is integrated with the PBX serving the phone.
Availability
Teledex is simultaneously announcing both versions (1.9 GHz and 1.8 GHz) of the new DECT cordless telephones. The phones will be shipping to customers by the middle of Q3/2006.
