Taking up the position in September, Mr Murphy will continue the drive to establish Macdonald as a luxury four and five star brand.
In Scotland, this is being spearheaded by investment in the group's golf and spa facilities with particular focus on the Macdonald Marine Hotel and Spa, the Macdonald Cardrona and the Macdonald Holyrood.

Donald Macdonald, Executive Chairman of Macdonald Hotels and Resorts, said, "The experience and knowledge Peter Murphy brings will be of tremendous benefit not just to the Scottish region, but to the group as a whole. We are pursuing a very determined course to establish the group as a luxury brand and Peter's 5 star experience will be particularly important.
"He has led key developments and has shown that he works effectively at industry, board and hotel level. Equally, his career has also taken him to London and Europe, bringing an international dimension to his understanding of the hospitality industry and how we must operate to attract a global traveller.
"Peter will have responsibility for the successful operation of Macdonald's Scottish portfolio of hotels at a time when we are stepping up all aspects of quality, from the food we serve to the standards of service our guests can expect. He is a welcome addition to our team and I look forward to working with him."
