Raffles Appoints Area General Managers
SINGAPORE, July 11, 2006. Raffles Hotels & Resorts has appointed Mr Thomas B. Meier as Area General Manager, South East Asia & China and Mr Riaz Mahmood as Area General Manager, Indo-China. These appointments were recently announced by Mrs Diana Ee-Tan, Managing Director of Raffles Hotels & Resorts and Executive Vice President of Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific.
Mr Meier joined Raffles Hotels & Resorts in early 2000 and was the Hotel Manager/ General Manager at Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh. In 2002, he moved to Singapore where he assumed the position of General Manager, Swiss^otel The Stamford before helming the fort at Raffles The Plaza in September 2004. A graduate of the Lausanne Hotel Management School (EHL), Mr Meier possesses more than 10 years of management experience in various countries in Asia.
Under his stalwart leadership, Raffles The Plaza has in the past year, made a triumphant debut entry into the Conde Nast Traveller UK Gold List 2006, emerging as the only hotel in Singapore to be featured. The Hotel also shone as the top hotel in Singapore in the second annual Conde Nast Traveler US Gold List 2006. To add to its impressive achievements, it is also rated one of the top 500 hotels in the world in Travel + Leisure magazine's World's Best Award survey, the T+L 500. Mr Meier continues in his current position as General Manager, Raffles The Plaza, in addition to having enlarged responsibilities as Area General Manager.
Mr Mahmood joined Raffles Hotels and Resorts in 2000 as the Operations Manager of Swiss^otel Sydney. In 2003 he moved to Cambodia where he assumed the position of Hotel Manager of the Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor, Siem Reap and in 2005 he was appointed General Manager of both Raffles Hotel Le Royal, Phnom Penh and Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor. A graduate of Thames Valley University, Mr Mahmood has more than 15 years of management experience in Asia and Australia.
Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor also received numerous impressive accolades and awards from prestigious luxury travel publications such as the Conde Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure magazine as one of the top 500 Hotels in the World. It was also voted as Cambodia's Leading Hotel by World Travel Awards in 2004 and 2005. Mr Mahmood continues as General Manager of both hotels in Cambodia in addition to his Area General Manager responsibilities.
