JUNE 1, 2009 - Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPE), the world's leading online travel company, has recognized its top hotel partners in Mexico for successes in revenue and room night production achieved despite the challenging economic climate. Riu Hotels & Resorts, which represents 15 properties in Mexico, was named Top Mexico Chain of 2008 for room night production.
'This award represents the fruits of our efforts to work together with Riu to bring their properties in front of our worldwide audience of travelers,' said Marco Tagliatti, Expedia's Vice President of Lodging Supply for Latin America. 'Expedia is committed to helping our Mexico partners navigate recent challenges and showcase the hospitality, natural beauty and culture that make Mexico one of the world's most popular travel destinations.'
Expedia and Riu acknowledged strategic revenue management consultancy provided by Expedia's market management team in Mexico, as well as collaboration in promotions and marketing opportunities as key to the partnership's ongoing success. Riu Hotels & Resorts achieved notable revenue and room night growth last year in the Expedia global marketplace, which is comprised of more than 70 Expedia- and hotels.com-branded sites and thousands of active affiliates worldwide.
In addition to the Top Chain award, the Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas was named top producer for Los Cabos. Expedia also recognized the top 10 Mexico chains and four other top producing properties by market.
