Ontario Hotels Agree to Assessment to Enhance Marketing

. October 29, 2009

OCTOBER 28, 2009 - Ontario hotels banded together and agreed to pay a marketing assessment fee to the Ontario Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Ontario Convention and Visitor's Bureau is using the money to help market and increase business for two newly created local hotel districts.

“The assessment will generate funds that the bureau will be able to use to market the two hotel districts in Ontario,” CEO and President Bob Brown said. “The class that these hotels are displaying is outstanding and it's this type of community and business cooperation that will see us through these rough economic times.”

The hotels began paying the Hotel Districts Assessment October 1. The Arena Hotel District includes the Hilton Ontario Airport; Best Western InnSuites Hotel; Country Inns and Suites by Carlson - Ontario Mills Mall; Ayres Suites Ontario at the Mills Mall and the Hyatt Place - Ontario Mills.

The Convention Center Hotel District includes the Doubletree Hotel Ontario; Marriott Ontario Airport; Sheraton Ontario Airport; Residence Inn by Marriott; Country Inns and Suites by Carlson - Ontario Convention Center; Red Roof Inn and Quality Inn Ontario Airport.

“Even in a recession, marketing is still important because you don't want to lose your market share,” said Amita Patel, Ontario Convention and Visitors Bureau Director of Sales. “These hotel districts will benefit greatly from their investment.”

The assessment will generate $10,266.75 in its first year. The funds are to be used strictly for marketing.

“I am proud of everybody's initiative in this,” Brown said. “Especially in this recession.”
