Off the Tourist Track in the Art of London

. October 14, 2008

HONG KONG, January 9, 2007. Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London has linked with leading contemporary art authority, Anna Moszynska, to provide bespoke gallery and exhibition visits off the tourist track to hotel guests in search of a true insider's guide to London's rich and sometimes contentious contemporary art culture.

Appealing to serious buyers and art novices alike, and available exclusively to guests of Mandarin Oriental, these tailor made half and full day programmes will be personally conducted by Anna, who will lead guests around the lesser-known cutting edge gallery spaces dotted amongst emerging art hubs such as Soho, Bethnal Green, Hoxton and Hackney. Anna will consult with hotel guests before arrival to assess their interests and preferences.

Trained at the Courtauld Institute of Art, Anna's career has spanned 25 years in the art world during which she has published numerous books and catalogues on contemporary art . Currently lecturing at the world-renowned Sotheby's Institute of Art, London, Anna frequently makes guest appearances on BBC Radio Cultural programmes. A born and bred Londoner, she has an intricate knowledge of the Capital's ever changing exhibition schedules, locations and gallery opening times, ensuring programmes are time effective and productive as well as enjoyable.

Richard Humphreys, Curator, Programme Research at The Tate and author of The Tate Britain Companion to British Art, comments: "Anna is one of the live wires of the London art scene. Her work as an art historian, curator, teacher and broadcaster is highly regarded by all those involved with twentieth century art. Always clear, intelligent and enthusiastic Anna takes the strange and remarkable world of modern art and communicates it with insight and passion to all audiences, expert or not."

Dr Andrea Schlieker, Curator British Art Show 6, 2005-2006, comments: "I have known Anna for the last 15 years, as writer of seminal art books, radio critic and, for more than a decade, as colleague and inspirational teacher on the MA course for Contemporary Art, run by Sotheby's Institute. Anna is one of the best informed, astute and articulate members of the London art scene. Anna's lectures and seminars are particularly enjoyed because of her infectious enthusiasm for and understanding of contemporary art and its main players."

On first name terms with anyone who matters on London's art scene, Anna can often provide introductions to gallery owners and artists as well. Well-established and newly opened commercial and public galleries can of course be incorporated, such as the White Cube Gallery that opened in the West End on 28 September 2006, to the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art), the Serpentine Gallery; and special interest sessions at Tate Britain or Tate Modern.

The excitement of London as an art centre is being felt internationally; it's where European collectors and dealers now head to discover what's new. Over the last decade, London's gritty East End has become the beating heart of its contemporary art scene - scores of new galleries have opened and unprecedented numbers of artists now flock from all over the world to study, live and work there. In the West End, new galleries continue to open as well, with the recent addition of edgy gallery Riflemaker in Soho, jointly run by one of Anna's former students, Virginia Damtsa.
