STR Reports US Hotel Performance for Week Ending February 5, 2011
February 11, 2011 - In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy increased 1.8 percent to 49.2 percent, average daily rate was up 2.2 percent to US$97.48, and revenue per available room finished the week up 4.1 percent to US$47.91.
The U.S. hotel industry reported single-digit increases in all three key performance metrics during the week of 30 January-5 February 2011, according to data from STR.
In year-over-year comparisons, occupancy increased 1.8 percent to 49.2 percent, average daily rate was up 2.2 percent to US$97.48, and revenue per available room finished the week up 4.1 percent to US$47.91.
Among the Top 25 Markets, Dallas, Texas, which hosted the Super Bowl XLV on 6 February 2011, achieved the largest increases in all three key performance metrics. The market's occupancy increased 27.1 percent to 60.6 percent, ADR was up 78.7 percent to US$148.83, and RevPAR jumped 127.1 percent to US$90.18.
Two top markets reported occupancy decreases of more than 5 percent: Seattle, Washington (-7.5 percent to 51.1 percent), and Washington, D.C. (-5.3 percent to 52.9 percent).
New Orleans, Louisiana, jumped 27.5 percent in ADR to US$140.42, behind Dallas. Miami-Hialeah, Florida, which hosted Super Bowl XLIV on 7 February 2010, posted the only double-digit ADR decrease, falling 29.6 percent to US$174.41.
Four markets other than Dallas experienced RevPAR increases of more than 20 percent: New Orleans (+28.3 percent US$82.44); Oahu Island, Hawaii (+27.9 percent to US$131.07); San Francisco/San Mateo, California (+27.4 percent to US$88.44); and Orlando, Florida (+22.8 percent to US$60.21). Miami-Hialeah fell 25.5 percent, reporting the largest decrease in that metric.
