Tidewater Inn Leaps Into 21st Century
EASTON, MD - July 21, 2011 - Following two years and expenditures of over $4,000,000, the 97-room Tidewater Inn (http://www.tidewaterinn.com) has completed guest room and public space renovations. The stunning historic building is the centerpiece of activity and gracious hospitality for the Town of Easton, MD. Coastal South, a hospitality firm located in nearby Kent Island, acquired the property in late 2009 and began renovations of the ballrooms, restaurant, meeting/lobby spaces and all 97 guest rooms.
The building heating and air conditioning was state-of-the-art when it was installed in 1945. Having air conditioning for the guests, including Elvis Presley, Elizabeth Taylor, the Kennedys, Bing Crosby, and Robert Mitchum, was a real luxury. However, the time for all new controls and systems was long overdue when Coastal South and its principle, John Wilson, took on the renovation challenges. Today, each room has modern thermostatic controls, and the new gas boiler and air handler will save energy and keep guests comfortable for the next 60 years.
"The Tidewater Inn is the pride of the Eastern Shore and deserves to continue as one of the very best hotels for the entire Delmarva Peninsula," says owner John Wilson. "We can feel throughout this wonderful building a great sense of gracious hospitality which has been practiced here for so many years, and now with these modern renovations, the Tidewater will continue the same exceptional service to our guests and the community."
The Hotel's management is now drawing on its deep experience with the celebrations market and has already become a sought-after site for weddings and corporate functions. Now fully renovated, the Gold and Crystal Ballrooms are supported by a stunning courtyard, terrace, Decanter Room, numerous meeting spaces and the wood-paneled Hunter's Tavern. "This property is really quite superb," G.M. Alexandra Zullo says. "The community and our guests have welcomed our efforts, and we are running at full steam ahead. The Tavern is popular with our guests, and the locals are thrilled with the food and ambiance."
The focus on weddings has the property bustling every weekend with guests coming predominately from D.C., Baltimore, Annapolis, New York and Virginia. During the week, companies and non-profits are filling the meeting space, and adjacent shops are extending hours. The Town of Easton is always the hub of activity with The Avalon theater, an active arts community holding celebrations including The Waterfowl Festival, Plein Air, and many Town sponsored activities throughout the year.
"This has been a very rewarding experience for us and the community," says Wilson. "We want to have played our part in the history of The Tidewater Inn, and we hope to continue our efforts here for a long time."
