The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa Completes Next Phase in Renovation
Denver, CO - August 25, 2011 - With its rich tradition and storied past, The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa is one of the most iconic luxury hotels in Denver. Originally built in 1892, the 241-key hotel has perfected the art of marrying tradition with modern day amenities to exceed the always changing expectations of its guests, while preserving the architectural integrity of this classic landmark. The hotel's continuous evolution is marked by the completion of its most recent phase of restoration that has totaled over $52 million in just the last 15 years alone. The renovation, developed by Quorum Hotels & Resorts of Dallas, the hotel's operator for the last 24 years, and facilitated by bkg Service Corporation, includes a massive redesign to all guestroom bathrooms, the suites at the top of The Brown and the spa and ballroom, featuring a number of contemporary influences & upgrades made throughout those areas.
Ownership Quorum and bkg believe all renovations to the hotel must pay homage to the tradition of the property, while maintaining its modern day sense of appeal - a sensibility that is reflected throughout every detail of the hotel's interiors and exterior.
The first phase of renovations consisted of converting the 76 rooms located at the Top of the Brown to 40 expanded rooms with upgraded fixtures & finishes that embody a sense of modernization. Carolynn Vierregger, bkg's lead project designer, incorporated changes to the original Romanesque guest room decor that capture more current Deco-era design features, while maintaining the original wood framing in the entry ways of the rooms. “It was important to update and modernize The Brown Palace while still preserving the integrity of a historical landmark,” explained Vierregger.
The ballroom received Axminster carpets, mahogany wood panels and a custom designed chandelier that was created to be the centerpiece of the space. The designers of the lighting fixture flew in from Czechoslovakia to hand-tie each crystal and ensure the piece was installed as they envisioned.
The 200 bathrooms in the Brown Palace guestrooms received $8 million of renovations featuring updated plumbing, new sophisticated silver fixtures, Carrara marble countertops, new vanities, as well as dual rain showerheads for a clean, classic look. Guestrooms received luxurious high-backed headboards, HD flat screen televisions, iPod docking stations, new coffee makers, wall vinyl, crown molding, stone entries and custom arched valances for draperies to allow in as much natural light as possible from the existing oversized windows.
Other recent upgrades in the hotel have included new equipment and vanity mirrors in the Spa, an expanded ladies' lounge, elevator modernization as well as electronic reader boards and Axminster woven carpeting in the lobby and throughout the hotel. The next phase of renovations will feature new fabrics in the lobby as well as new, versatile furniture put in place to accommodate the many events hosted by The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa.
“We're very pleased with the renovations throughout the hotel,” explained Mark Shine, Director of Sales and Marketing for The Brown Palace. He continued, “The Brown is a Denver icon and an important part of this city, which is why we strive to continuously evolve and keep it looking its best.”
