Independence MO Announces Six Themed Tour Packages

INDEPENDENCE, MO, February 9, 2007. Independence Tourism has announced the creation of six themed travel packages that will save travelers both time and money when they visit the historic city. Independence, known as the Queen City of the Trails, is adjacent to Kansas City, just off major interstates and near the Kansas City International airport. The first five packages are offered April- October and the holiday tour is available from Thanksgiving weekend to Dec 30. Lunch for all packages is "on your own."

The most popular tour package is Pioneers and Presidents. Visitors who choose this option enjoy visits to the Truman Presidential Museum & Library, the Vaile Victorian Mansion, 1859 Jail, Marshal's Home and Museum, Pioneer Spring Cabin, lunch on historic Independence Square, Bingham-Waggoner Estate and National Frontier Trails Museum. Admission to the sites, along with a stay at the Olive Branch Inn, Woodstock Inn, Comfort Suites, Best Western or Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites, is included in the package price, which ranges from $103 to $150 for one night. Other package themes, with prices and accommodations which vary, include:

Generations (designed for grandparents and grandchildren) with visits to the National Frontier Trails Museum, Children's Peace Pavilion, lunch and a covered wagon tour on historic Independence Square, Puppetry Arts Institute, and Truman Presidential Museum & Library. Optional: Adventure Oasis Water Park.

Faith of our Fathers (focusing on religious heritage of Mormons and other faiths) with tours of the Community of Christ Temple and Auditorium, Church of Christ (Temple Lot), Mormon Visitors Center, Restoration Heritage Plaza, Stone Church, lunch and shopping on the Square, The Angel Lady (unique store filled with thousands of angels), and a drive by tour of historic churches such as the Stone Church, Trinity Episcopal Church, Second Baptist Church, St. Mary's Catholic Church and First Presbyterian Church. Optional: Missouri Mormon Walking Trail.

Rails and Trails (spotlighting trains and westward trails), includes the Bingham-Waggoner Estate, National Frontier Trails Museum, Chicago and Alton Depot, Truman Depot, lunch and shopping on the Square, covered wagon tour and 1859 Jail, Marshal's Home and Museum.

Girls Just Want to Have Fun (created for fans of the girlfriends' getaway) features the Vaile Mansion, Truman Home Information Center, Carriage Ride (on your own) or antiquing and lunch on the Square, Angel Lady, Bingham-Waggoner Estate and an organ recital at the Community of Christ Temple. Optional : Leila's Hair Museum.

Heritage Christmas (be swept back to the holidays of yesteryear) offers a tour of the Vaile Mansion, 1859 Marshal's Home and Bingham-Waggoner historic homes, decorated for the holidays, as well as a chance for lunch and shopping on the Square, a stop at the Angel Lady, National Frontier Trails Museum and an optional second day visiting the Truman Home Visitors Center and Truman Presidential Museum & Library.

Romance/Bridal packages are also available at area hotels, motels and B & Bs and can be customized.
