Alpina Gstaad Appoints Martin Hohn to Top Food & Beverage Post

First Five-star Hotel Built in Gstaad in 100 Years to Open December 1

GSTAAD, Switzerland - July 13, 2012 - Martin Hohn has been appointed Executive Assistant Manager - Food and Beverage for The Alpina Gstaad, the first luxury hotel to be built in 100 years in the charming alpine village of Gstaad.

During his 16-years in the international hospitality industry, Mr. Hohn has held executive posts and food and beverage manager positions with luxury hotel companies in Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, South Africa and Thailand. He received his early training in Switzerland and spent six years in Thailand with top resort brands - both destinations are renowned for their hospitality and cuisine.

Mr. Hohn will be responsible for all food and beverage service for The Alpina Gstaad including banqueting, events and its three restaurants: the first European outpost of MEGU, an award-winning Japanese restaurant; a traditional Swiss stübli and an all-day dining restaurant that will offer an international menu. He will report directly to Managing Director Nik Leuenberger and serve as his deputy in hotel operations.

A $337 million luxury development that includes private apartments within the hotel and two chalets, the property is on schedule to open December 1. The Alpina Gstaad is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Swiss architecture incorporating authentic local materials and time-honored alpine style. In addition to the three restaurants, the 56-room hotel will have a bar and lounge, a 21,000-square-foot Six Senses Spa, indoor and outdoor pools, a cigar lounge, a private cinema, a wine tasting room, a ballroom and meeting rooms.

Prior to joining The Alpina Gstaad, Mr. Hohn was Area Executive Assistant Manager supervising two luxury properties of KC Hotels & Resorts in Koh Samui. Previously, he was Executive Assistant Manager, Operations at the five-star Infinity Lifestyle Destination, also in Koh Samui, where he developed the food and beverage concepts as well as the spa.

Mr. Hohn began his hospitality career at the five-star Grand Resort Bad Ragaz and moved to the luxurious Hotel Le Plaza in Brussels and then on to the award-winning Cape Grace in Cape Town. In 2004, he was named Assistant to the General Manager at one of Barcelona's iconic luxury properties, the glamorous 1920-era Gran Hotel La Florida.

Commenting on his appointment, Martin noted, “I am thrilled to be directing the food and beverage experience for The Alpina Gstaad. My hospitality schooling began in Switzerland, and of course, I am happy to be back. We have three unique restaurants, and we believe each will set a new level of distinction for Gstaad,” he explained.

Mr. Hohn has a degree in International Hospitality Management from the Lausanne Hotel Business School. A Swiss national from Bern, Mr. Hohn speaks four languages: English, German, French and Spanish.
