Harbor Beach Marriott Taps James Mauer as GM

. October 14, 2008

FEBRUARY 15, 2007. Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Mauer as the resort's new general manager. Mauer, a 22 year Marriott veteran, has returned home, so to speak, as he started his hospitality career at the premier Fort Lauderdale resort back in 1984. He brings over 20 years of hospitality experience and is managing all hotel operations, inclusive of its 738 employees.

"I am thrilled to be reunited with the Harbor Beach Marriott team," said Mauer. "The resort launched my career in the industry and I look forward to being a part of its continued success as one of Marriott's, and Florida's, most prominent resorts."

Mauer rejoins Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa at an exciting time as designers plan finishing touches to a $25 million renovation that began in 2006. Starting in July, all 637 guest rooms and suites will undergo an extensive revitalization including new furnishings, lighting, window treatments, carpeting, and art work. Already installed in every accommodation are new 32" flat screen televisions and the deluxe Marriott European-style Revive(R) bedding package. The resort's 35 suites, ranging in size from over 700 square feet to nearly 2,500 square feet, are being redesigned to create a casual yet sophisticated, Florida urban beach loft feel. The renovation, slated to be completed by fall 2007, will evoke a true seaside residential atmosphere, and is carefully planned - floor by floor - to not impact summer guests' resort stay. Overlooking the resort's expansive private beach, an 11,000-square-foot ballroom is planned for 2009 which will bring the hotel's flexible meeting space to a total of 41,000 square feet.

Mauer has been a part of the Marriott family for over two decades. For the past three years, he served as area general manager of the Cleveland Marriott Downtown, where he was recently named Hotelier of the Year from the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association. Mauer has also held positions as area general manager of Livonia Marriott in Michigan, director of food and beverage for the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center, the director of operations for Marriott's Griffin Gate Resort in Kentucky and assistant food and beverage director of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Mauer is very involved in community relations and is an active board member of the United Way and on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement. He currently resides in Fort Lauderdale with his wife and three children.
