Marriott Columbia Hotel Announces New Hires and Renovations

. September 27, 2012

September 27, 2012 - The Marriott Columbia Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina is excited to announce that the hotel, which was recently acquired by Aimbridge Hospitality, has hired Joel Darr as general manager and Nancy Wagner as director of sales. In addition, the hotel, which is located in the heart of Downtown Columbia, will undergo a $10 million renovation beginning in December.

Darr brings with him an extensive hotel management background and aims to raise the excellent level of quality service that the hotel is known for. Most recently, Darr successfully opened and managed the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale resort as Opening General Manager. In addition to opening the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale, Darr boasts more than 20 years of senior leadership with Marriott business and resort properties in Colorado, Florida and Georgia.

Also joining the team at the Marriott Columbia is Nancy Wagner, Director of Sales. Prior to becoming Director of Sales for the downtown hotel, Wagner was the Director of Sales for the Embassy Suites Columbia Hotel and the Holiday Inn University Plaza in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The 300-room Downtown Columbia hotel will begin a $10 million repositioning in December that includes updates to all of the guest rooms and a new modern, Southern restaurant that will feature locally produced foods and bourbons. With a Marriott Great Room concept and an evening bar, the Marriott Columbia will be positioned as the top property in the market, boasting the most rooms, largest meeting space, garage parking and a convenient location on the revitalized Main Street.

Darr looks forward to the future improvements that the hotel will receive and the impact the improvements will have on both the hotel and Downtown Columbia.

“We felt it was beneficial to introduce a completely enhanced and upgraded guest experience while still offering the same great value our guests are accustomed to,” said Darr. “The renovations to the Columbia Marriott will bring an exciting new dimension to the Main Street and downtown area, and guests will be able to enjoy upscale accommodations and amenities at a reasonable price while staying in the heart of Downtown Columbia.”

Aimbridge Hospitality, one of the nation's leading independent hotel investment and management firms, manages the hotel and will oversee the renovation.
