New Castle Names New Sales Execs in Upstate NY

Promotes Rachel Alcaro & Appoints Bernadette Donohue

SHELTON, CT - February 13, 2014 - Officials of New Castle Hotels & Resorts, a leading hotel owner, operator and developer, today announced the promotion of Rachel Alcaro, CMP, to senior sales manager at the Residence Inn/Courtyard by Marriott Syracuse Downtown at Armory Square and the appointment of Bernadette Donohue, CMP, to director sales at the Craftsman Inn and Conference Center in nearby Fayetteville, NY.

Alcaro previously was the director of sales at the 90-room Craftsman Inn and Conference Center, a Stickley-furnished, boutique-style suburban inn. While there, her direct sales efforts generated nearly 50 percent of the hotel's total room nights. Prior to joining that hotel, Alcaro was a convention sales manager for the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"Rachel's familiarity with the Syracuse market will make her a terrific addition to the team at the Residence Inn/Courtyard on Armory Square," said Gerry Chase, New Castle's president and COO. "She's done a great job leveraging the unique qualities of the Craftsman and has earned the opportunity to maximize the tremendous assets of this new, dual-brand, downtown hotel."

"Syracuse was ripe for a new downtown hotel and choosing to build a Marriott dual-brand clearly demonstrates New Castle's understanding of this market," said Alcaro. "I know that I can make a meaningful contribution to the hotels' success and help integrate them into the social and business fabric of the Armory Square community."

Donohue is a 20-year veteran of the hospitality and meetings business, having most recently worked as a senior conference specialist at the University of Tennessee and as a regional sales manager for La Quinta Inns in southern California.

"Bernadette is returning to New York with skills and experience acquired all across the country," added Chase. "She'll bring a fresh pair of eyes to a hotel that's certain to be very valuable for a one-of-a-kind hotel like the Craftsman."

"I was fortunate to start my sales career at unique hotels like the Lawrence Welk Resort and the Yale Club in New York, so the Craftsman is a return to my hospitality roots," said Donohue. "The Craftsman has a warm, upstate feel that resonates with both the local community and visitors to Syracuse in a way that big-box hotels don't."
