Washington, DC's Capitol Hill Hotel Completes Renovations for All 153 Guestrooms & Suites

. April 16, 2014

Washington, DC - April 16, 2014 - Sophisticated yet inviting, the 153-room Capitol Hill Hotel, managed by HHM, has completed a full guestroom renovation, marking the final stage of a three-part renovation and setting its transformation into a quintessential Independent Collection (IC) hotel.

The new guestrooms, designed by New York-based firm datumzero, deliver a 'Federalist chic' feel, mixing historic elements into an overall modern scheme. Shades of white fill the rooms; a black trim adds dimension and colorful accents lend the rooms personality: a red leather wingback chair catches the eye while a gray zebra-striped desk chair adds flair. The walls are adorned with prints of works by classic American artists including Diebenkorn, Rothko and Warhol.

"Our hotel has always offered the comforts of home to our guests - with large guestrooms, 50 percent larger than the typical DC hotel room, and our delightful amenities such as complimentary continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi and use of our in-house fitness center," said Donte Johnson, general manager of Capitol Hill Hotel. "The guestrooms are now even more refined and comfortable, offering plush bedding, modern bathrooms and spacious kitchenettes in every room."

Capitol Hill Hotel has long been a mainstay in the Capitol Hill Historic District, and now with the completion of its new design, the hotel truly brings the neighborhood inside. It is a place that senators give a nod to on their way to vote, that lobbyists admire on their way home from a productive day on the Hill, and that tourists gather at en route to see the sights of our nation's capital. With its charming and intellectual air, the corner of C Street and 2nd Street SE reads more neighborhood than landmark, even though the Library of Congress sits directly across the street.

The transformation started in 2012, when the hotel renovated its public and meeting spaces; adding design touches such as a cherry blossom-themed mural in the lobby by local artist Maggie O'Neill and politically-inspired art in the meeting rooms. A flexible-use private lobby called "The Library" was also created, aptly named because of its collection of historic books in addition to the hotel's proximity to the Library of Congress. The hotel added a business center and a state-of-the-art fitness room complete with machines and free weights.

"This renovation completes the experience at Capitol Hill Hotel, but what I love most about this place is the superior location, just steps from the center of government and a short walk to the National Mall. It's our service though, which is both personalized and localized, that keeps them coming back," added Johnson.
