Walkwire and Carbonfund Fighting Global Warming

Effective immediately: Walkwire, with the help of Carbonfund.org, will offset the carbon footprints

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 13, 2007. For the last several years hotels and providers throughout the Hospitality Industry have been implementing "Green" measures in an effort to create a more environmentally-sensitive business model. These measures include everything from giving guests the option of not having their towels and linens washed everyday to establishing recycling programs. Walkwire, a leading provider of Automated Lobby PCs, Business Centers and Boarding Pass PCs has taken this commitment one step further by working with Carbonfund.org to not only offset their own energy consumption but also that of every new PC that the company deploys in its client's hotel properties.

"We're in the business of providing critical guest amenities," said Gregor Gomory, Director of Sales and Green Business Initiatives at Walkwire,"and recent studies show that the vast majority of hotel guests want to know that hotels are operating in an environmentally-conscious way. Today's travelers want to stay connected and they truly appreciate hotels with a commitment to going green. Why not make it that much easier for our client hotels by offsetting the carbon footprint of our products?"

This green trend is spreading to every facet of the industry and hotel guests are taking notice. "The call for Green Hospitality measures have simply exploded this spring" states Michael Stewart, Partnership Coordinator for the non-profit Carbonfund.org Foundation in San Francisco, "from offsetting their plane flights to their hotel stay, and now through Walkwire, their associated hotel business center activities, the green traveler has arrived in your town and is expecting to make a difference, not a dent. We are excited to be working with Walkwire to create their green powered Business Centers and Lobby PCs throughout their entire network of associated hotel partners. "

Working with Carbonfund.org to offset their emissions and fight global warming is just one of several initiatives that Walkwire has undertaken by going Green. "We have always used recycled paper and soy-based inks...remember we're in San Francisco," jokes Gomory, "but we also base our product choices on recyclibility and use computers and peripherals that are recyclable, energy efficient and extremely well made." A typical PC and monitor use 1200 kilowatts of energy annually and this amounts to 0.8 tons of Carbon Dioxide a year. It's easy to see how these numbers can add up. "We wanted to take our commitment one step further and offset the energy consumption for all of the new PCs and printers that we deploy," continues Gomory, "and the bottom line is that working towards a Greener future is good for our company, good for the hotels that we work with and good for the planet."
