KAʻANAPALI BEACH HOTEL ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF KAUʻI KRUEGER TO HAWAIIAN CULTURAL RESOURCE ADVISOR
Maui, HI. (Feb 22, 2016) - Kaʻanapali Beach Hotel, Hawaiʻi's Most Hawaiian Hotel, announced the appointment of Kauʻi Krueger as Hawaiian Cultural Resource Advisor.
Kauʻi will work alongside the cultural staff to assist in their overall mission of providing Hawaiian guidance within every aspect of the hotel, from its management system to daily operations. A primary focus of his position will be developing and teaching Poʻokela classes to staff. Instituted in 1986 by the hotel, Po'okela ensures employees are educated about Hawaiʻi's culture through classes that cover Hawaiian language, history, local plants, arts, song and other areas. Kauʻi will also assist with the implementation of additional cultural programming for guests that incorporate rich and authentic experiences through music, hula and additional guest offerings. Ka'anapali Beach Hotel currently offers an array of complimentary daily cultural activities such as hula lessons, ʻukulele classes, cultural garden walks and nightly Hawaiian entertainment.
“We are delighted to welcome Kauʻi to our Kaʻanapali Beach Hotel family as he brings a passion for guest services and deeply rooted knowledge about the Hawaiian culture,” said Kaʻanapali Beach Hotel Director of Training Dee Coyle. “We are committed to providing our staff and guests an environment that continues to foster and preserve our culture through meaningful and authentic experiences, and we know Kauʻi is the perfect fit to help in our endeavors.”
Kauʻi has had a longstanding connection with Kaʻanapali Beach Hotel and participated in its annual Hula O' Na Keiki event, Maui's only children's hula competition. In 2010, he won the prestigious title of Overall Kane winner. The following year, he won the Richard Hoʻopiʻi Falsetto contest inspiring him to begin his journey through the traditions of 'uniki, the ancient process of becoming a Kumu Hula.
