New GM at Sofitel Grand, Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, NL, December 17, 2007. Robert-Jan Woltering has been appointed as General Manager of Sofitel The Grand in Amsterdam as per today, December 17, 2007. The Sofitel The Grand Amsterdam is a 5 star deluxe hotel, ideally located in the heart of Amsterdam. The historic building is uniquely bordered front and back by two canals.

The appointment to this position signals the return of the 43-year old Dutchman to the city of his birth after years of roaming the globe in positions in the world's finest hotels. Woltering will be succeeding Richard Launay, who is relocating to Rome taking up the position of director of Sofitel Italy and Greece.

Robert-Jan Woltering has built an impressive career with Accor. His last assignment took him to Belgium, where he worked as General Manager of Sofitel Gent Belfort (174 rooms) and Sofitel Brugge (149 rooms). In this position, he was responsible for repositioning the two hotels. In the past year and a half, he restructured the sales team and modernized Sofitel Gent Belfort.

From June 2004 through April 2006, Robert-Jan Woltering held the position of General Manager of Sofitel Old Cataract and the New Cataract Hotel in Egypt. His assignment in Egypt was to reposition the two hotels, which formerly operated based on a single management vision, as separate market entities. In the period spanning 1999 through 2004, he was responsible for opening the Grand Hotel Mercure Alfa in Luxemburg and the Hotel Mercure Prague Centre Na Porici.

Robert-Jan Woltering began his career in the hotel business with Hilton International where he held successive positions in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Paris and Antananarivo (Madagascar). In 1995, he left the Sheraton Sana'a Hotel in Yemen to join Accor as the Food & Beverage Manager of Sofitel Luxemburg. Shortly thereafter, he assisted in the opening of Sofitel Dubai in the position of assistant General Manager.
