USA, Sausalito, California. May 25, 2021

Marin Management, Inc., a California-based hotel management company, announced today that Kimberly Ali has joined the company as vice president of business development. A longtime real estate hospitality veteran, Ali comes to Marin Management from Empire USA, LLC, where she served as asset manager of hospitality for the company's hotel division.

Ali will be responsible for the expansion of Marin Management's diverse portfolio spanning from boutique hotels to upscale properties, while positioning the organization for continued revenue growth. Recently the company added three new hotel management contracts, bringing the total number of branded and independent hotels to 24 across California, Oregon, Arizona and Colorado. In her new role, Ali will report to Pat Mitchell, president of Marin Management.

"We're delighted that Kimberly Ali is now a member of our seasoned team," Mitchell said. "She brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the company at a time when we're looking to actively build new relationships and create management opportunities in the areas of both branded properties and independent hotels."

Born and raised in California, Ali has broad expertise in hospitality asset management, including responsibility for capital improvement projects, renovations and financial performance. She is a member of the Asian-American Hotel Owners Association and the California Hotel & Lodging Association.

"Kimberly will be a tremendous asset in strategically growing our portfolio of properties," said Gary Hogan, CEO of Hogan Hospitality, parent company of Marin Management, Inc. "We're anticipating that the next few years will be a time of transition for many hotels as hospitality comes to terms with post-COVID realities. We're excited to have Kimberly with us at this pivotal time."

Revenue Management: Monetizing All Offerings

Of all the departments within hotel operations, Revenue Management may have been the hardest hit, due to the pandemic. The logic goes - no revenue, no need for revenue managers - so many industry professionals were furloughed. If business rebounds in 2021, as expected, then hotel management will have to determine when prevailing occupancy levels justify bringing back their revenue management team. Also, the pandemic seems to have exposed some weaknesses in the traditional RevPAR models. There is a growing understanding that it is no longer sufficient to use a "revenue per available room" model; instead, hotels are adopting a TRevPAR model (total revenue per available room). This model recognizes that revenue streams from other departments are just as important as the revenue gained from rooms. As a result, hotels are looking at ways to monetize any and all hotel offerings - from dining outlets and spas to outdoor function spaces and local partnerships. The October issue of the Hotel Business Review will examine these developments and report on how some leading hotels are executing their revenue management strategies.
