Cote Family Destinations is pleased to announce the appointment of Dennis Wilson as the new general manager of Grand View Lodge Spa and Golf Resort.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dennis to the team," said Cote Family Destinations CEO Tom Juliano. Wilson joins Grand View Lodge with over a decade of hospitality management experience in a series of leadership positions with Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, and other corporations. Most recently, Wilson was general manager at Hyatt Regency Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., where he led turnaround efforts for the asset after a transition of ownership and management companies, significantly increasing revenue and changing the culture of the property by reinventing its fine dining restaurant and significantly improving overall customer service. In 2017, he was general manager at Double Tree by Hilton in St. Paul, Minn., delivering the most successful year in financials, customer service, customer loyalty and ambassador satisfaction in the hotel's history.

"I am honored to be part of the incredibly talented team at Grand View Lodge, a 750-acre lakeside destination two hours north of the Twin Cities," said Wilson. "My career has taken me to numerous hotels and resorts throughout the state, and I look forward to bringing the experience I've gained and my expertise of the market to this new role at this legacy property."

Grand View Lodge offers guests a year-round retreat on the shores of Gull Lake in the Brainerd Lakes Area. In June 2022, the property debuted a newly renovated Glacial Waters Spa, boasting several new amenities including a state-of-the-art Himalayan salt room, Vichy shower room, new outdoor hot tub, additional treatment rooms and treatment offerings, and more. This summer, Grand View Lodge opened Crust Pizza and re-opened Cru Restaurant & Wine Bar with a new Mediterranean-inspired menu.

Hotel Revenue Management: Every Square Foot Matters

Traditionally, hotels have employed a room-centric revenue model. The primary focus was on pricing strategies that could generate the most revenue from the sale of rooms. However, the pandemic has forced hoteliers to look beyond room revenue exclusively, and to maximize all available revenue streams. How is this accomplished? By re-imagining the use and function of every square foot of a hotel property, and how revenue is generated from it. For example, some hotels are rethinking their spaces for different uses - offering rooms for private day meetings, or offering suites for private dinners. Other hotels with meeting spaces are moving beyond daytime conferences and events, and figuring out how to book those spaces in the evenings, on holidays and weekends, for such things as exhibitions, workshops, rehearsals and pop-ups. Still other hotels are leasing work spaces or parking spaces to businesses in their local market. The October issue of the Hotel Business Review will report on how some leading hotels are re-inventing their revenue management strategies.
