Two Is the Magic Number for WRI Webby Honorees
NEW YORK, NY, April 9, 2008. The Webby Awards today recognized two of Web Reservations International's (WRI) key travel brands; hostelworld.com and boo.com as Official Honorees, a distinction that recognizes work exhibiting remarkable achievement. WRI was the only company in the travel category to scoop two of the top honors.
Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Travel Websites. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization that includes David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, AKQA Global Creative Director Rei Inamoto, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser.
"The Webby Awards honors the outstanding work that is setting the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "Hostelworld.com and boo.com's Official Honoree selection is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators."
Feargal Mooney, WRI CEO commented "We are delighted two of our key consumer brands, hostelworld.com and boo.com have been honored by the Webby Awards. The awards are the leading international honor for the web and something we are extremely proud to have attained, particularly as we were the only company in the travel section to accomplish two awards".
He continued "We have worked hard to ensure our brands are the best they can be and this is particularly rewarding for the boo.com team, as the site has been in operation for less than a year. Hostelworld.com is our flagship website and received it's 3rd award this year, further cementing it's position as the market leading website for hostel reservations"
The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states.
