Babylon Comes to Bloomsbury
LONDON, UK, September 22, 2008. For two thousand years the myth of Babylon has haunted the European imagination. The Tower of Babel and the Hanging Gardens, Belshazzar's Feast and the Fall of Babylon have inspired artists, writers, poets, philosophers and filmmakers.
Drawing on the combined holdings of its own collections, the Louvre in Paris, and the Vorderasiatisches Museum in Berlin, a new exhibition at the British Museum explores the continuing dialogue between the Babylon of our imagination and the historic evidence of one of the great cities of antiquity.
Just steps away from the Museum, The Montague is the perfect base for a London stay and a visit to 'Babylon'. The 100-room hotel, with its newly refurbished guest rooms and suites, is ideally situated for both business and leisure visitors and prides itself on personal service and attention to detail.
Though neighbouring the museum, the hotel of course is far from fossilized. Indeed it is bang up to date, with WiFi and free Internet access throughout, digital movies and audio on demand, plus interactive TV that includes on-screen hotel directory, wake-up alarm, and a view of your bill. The on-site Blue Door Bistro is one of the cheeriest and most convivial places to eat in the area, offering commanding views of Montague Gardens Square.
And while we don't have any hanging gardens, we do have a fabulous garden at the rear of the hotel, providing a wonderful aspect for hotel guests.
The Babylon exhibition runs from 13 November 2008 until 15 March 2009. For all our guests booking a minimum two-night weekend stay at the Montague we will offer two complimentary tickets to the exhibition when booking the best available rate.
The Montague is an oasis of calm in one of London's most desirable locations. It is within strolling distance of the West End and The British Museum, and close to London's Financial District. Guests find themselves just minutes from Covent Garden, shopping on Oxford and Bond streets, the West End theatres and Russell and Bloomsbury squares.
