Blue Horizons Garden Resort, Grenada, Introduces 'No Smoking' In-Room Policy on Keeping with 'Green'

. October 14, 2008

GRENADA, October 11, 2005. In keeping with its environmental efforts to remain in the "green," Blue Horizons Garden Resort in Grenada has introduced a "no smoking" in-room policy applicable to all 32 accommodations. This new policy does not make Blue Horizons a "no smoking" resort; guests can smoke on the patios or in any open-air space throughout the property.

"We instituted this policy in order to keep the air in our guest rooms clean and fresh, which is right in line with our efforts to enact 'green' measures throughout the property," said Arnold Hopkin, owner/manager of Blue Horizons Garden Resort, a Green Globe benchmarked hotel for its impressive environmental initiatives.

Blue Horizons re-opened in July 2005 following a $1.5 million refurbishment project. The new interior and exterior color scheme of ivories, tans, and shades of green complemented by six acres of lush vegetation, colorful flowers and gently chirping birds creates a tranquil atmosphere that lets guests return to the softer side of nature in a delightful Caribbean paradise.

The resort features 32 spacious accommodations in superior studio and deluxe one-bedroom categories that come equipped with contemporary styled furnishings, air conditioning, ceiling fan, color cable television, telephone, CD player/clock radio, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, in-room safe and fully-outfitted kitchenette with refrigerator, stove, coffee maker and ample counter space. Blue Horizons has long been associated with its gourmet restaurant La Belle Creole, a popular dining spot for guests staying at any hotel on the island. Affording picturesque views of Grand Anse Beach and St. George's Harbour, La Belle Creole features continental cuisine with a West Indian flair.

A freshwater swimming pool, activities lounge (with color television, games and books) and poolside bar are centrally located. At the front desk, guests can schedule off-property diversions such as deep-sea fishing, hiking, bird-watching, sunset cruises, sightseeing tours and other specialty excursions. Blue Horizons has an aviary for tropical birds with 21 different species inhabiting the grounds. Birds that can be found on property include the Barn Swallow, the Violet Eared Dove, the Tropical Mockingbird, the Broad-Winged Hawk and the Lesser Antillean Bullfinch.

Beyond this, Blue Horizons and Grenada are an excellent combination for travelers interested in ecotourism. Mix Blue's tremendous value with Grenada's lush interior, hiking trails of varying degree, waterfalls, the Grand 'Etang National Park and much more, and you have the ingredients for a unique Grenadian adventure.

Fantastic family value can also be found at Blue Horizons. During the off-season, children under 18 stay for free when staying in deluxe accommodations with paying parents (maximum of two kids per room). Kids under 12 years of age eat free from the children's menu with parents on the CP, MAP or all-inclusive meal plans.

Guests can partake in various daytime pursuits at Spice Island Beach Resort, situated 200 yards across the road, including beach lounging on Grand Anse Beach (complimentary chaise lounges are provided) and snorkeling, sailing with Hobie cats and kayaking (free equipment available). The swimming pool is restricted for use by Spice Island Beach Resort guests only. A full-service watersports facility on the beach provides scuba diving, parasailing and other sea challenges for an additional charge. Day/night tennis and use of the fitness room and spa at Spice Island Beach Resort are available for a nominal fee and can be arranged by signing up in advance.

To target various niche markets, Blue Horizons sells adventure, dive and adventure honeymoon packages. Blue Horizons is located four miles north of the airport and less than five miles from the capital city of St. George's.
