Mark Herron Appointed GM, Four Seasons Resort Whistler
OCTOBER 22, 2008. Tucking away his golf clubs for the winter and embracing his passion for skiing and mountain living, Mark Herron has joined the Four Seasons Resort Whistler team as General Manager.
Leaving behind the southern charm of Houston, Texas, previously serving as General Manager of downtown Houston's only AAA Five-Diamond property, Herron looks forward to working with yet another Five-Diamond gem and living in one of the world's most beautiful mountain communities.
Upon arrival to Whistler, Herron's first impression was of true admiration for the architectural design of the resort and the friendliness of the residents. "Whistler has an impressive international flare that is charming but also diverse," says Herron. "There is a true sense of community, but with such a worldly feel." With his postgraduate work in public administration, he appreciates Whistler's excellent master plan and feels the resort is well prepared to host the world's 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
As General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Whistler, Herron is responsible for the daily management and operations of the 273-room hotel and 37 private residences. Most recently the General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Houston, Herron brings with him twenty years of Four Seasons knowledge and experience.
Herron joined Four Seasons in August of 1988 as Club Manager of the Sports Club at Four Seasons Resort Dallas, a 400-acre resort facility with 2,300 memberships and host to the annual PGA Byron Nelson Classic. In January of 2000 he was appointed Hotel Manager at Four Seasons Houston where he assisted in the introduction of the hotel's award-winning restaurant, Quattro. In the fall of 2001, Herron was appointed General Manager of the Four Seasons Sedona at Seven Canyons. During his tenure, he has worked on multiple Four Seasons projects including Four Seasons Olympic Hotel in Seattle, Washington and the Four Seasons Biltmore, Santa Barbara where he guided the property through a comprehensive $200 million renovation enhancing all aspects of the resort.
"In order to be special you have to believe you're special," says Herron, when asked for words to live by. Herron instills this philosophy in all of the Four Seasons teams he works with. "I have been fortunate enough to work with a number of leaders within Four Seasons, each of them giving you a different perspective. I believe our greatest asset is our staff and our team."
Mark arrives to Whistler with his wife Shelley and two children, Luke and Maggie, and of course their trusted best friend Juno. They look forward to experiencing all that Whistler has to offer.
