Benchmark Appoints Alex Caba~nas VP Development and Strategy
HOUSTON, TX, October, 23 2008. Benchmark Hospitality International has named Alex Caba~nas vice president of development and strategy for the global hospitality management company. The appointment was announced by Burt Caba~nas, Benchmark's chairman and chief executive officer. Alex Caba~nas was previously vice president of capital markets for Benchmark Hospitality.
"As I viewed Benchmark's projected growth over the next ten years, it became clear that new business development, strategic planning and coordination of capital resources needed to be managed under one umbrella," said Burt Caba~nas. " Alex's track record with the capital side of our business over the past two years, coupled with his experience in corporate strategy with Boston Consulting Group, establishes him as the ideal person to lead Benchmark's growth initiatives."
In his new position with Benchmark Hospitality International, Alex Caba~nas assumes broad responsibilities for the company's growth, including the expansion of its portfolio of award-winning resorts, personal luxury hotels and conference centers, both domestically and internationally. With strategic planning and organizational development efforts critical to successful growth, Mr. Caba~nas will coordinate with Benchmark's executive team to move the organization forward. As well, he will continue to oversee the development of Benchmark's investment capital opportunities and relationships important to the company's expansion plans.
Alex Caba~nas has been employed by Benchmark Hospitality since early 2006, most recently serving as vice president of capital markets. In this role, he actively expanded Benchmark's access to capital resources globally, developed a capital strategy for potential co-investment opportunities and supported strategic planning initiatives. Additionally, Mr. Caba~nas oversaw the launch of Benchmark Japan, the company's Asian subsidiary, which included the initiation of multiple development projects within Tokyo and the country of Japan. Prior to this appointment, Caba~nas served as director of capital markets and strategic planning for Benchmark Hospitality.
Previous to joining Benchmark, Alex Caba~nas was part of the global consulting team with The Boston Consulting Group, based in Dallas. He earned his Master in Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School. He holds a Bachelor in Business Administration degree and a Master of Science in Finance degree from Texas A&M University. Mr. Caba~nas resides in The Woodlands, Texas, with his family.
