Duncan Clements Takes Helm of Kimpton's Hotel Burnham
JANUARY 22, 2009 - Kimpton's Hotel Burnham in Chicago, IL has named Duncan Clements, 38, of London, as general manager, where he will oversee all operations of the 122-room boutique hotel.
Clements is returning to Chicago where he previously worked as assistant general manager of the Hotel Monaco Chicago from 2006 - 2007. In 2007, he was promoted to general manager of Kimpton's Hotel Lumen in Dallas, a 60-room boutique hotel where he helped increase revenue growth by 20 percent and led the hotel to a top 10 spot for customer satisfaction among all Kimpton hotels nationwide.
Prior to joining Kimpton, Clements traveled the globe with InterContinental Hotels, holding a variety of management positions in major cities such as London, Abu Dhabi, Cleveland and Budapest. He received his bachelor's degree in Hospitality and Business Management from Manchester University, Manchester, U.K.
"Duncan's blend of domestic and foreign experience is a great asset in Chicago, a city that is quickly becoming a major international destination," said Ron Vlasic, regional vice president for Kimpton Hotels. "Coupled with his extraordinary understanding of Kimpton's culture and style, this makes him an invaluable asset to our executive team."
As general manager of Hotel Burnham, Clements new position will involve management of one of Chicago's most cherished architectural landmarks. The Hotel Burnham is housed in what was once the Reliance Building, built by Daniel Burnham, John Root and Charles Atwood in 1895. Their design was revolutionary at the time; a 14-story structure that appeared to defy gravity, thanks to an interior iron and steel frame construction coupled with a delicate glass and terra cotta facade. The ground-breaking design set the precedent for the modern skyscraper.
An active hiker and soccer fan, Clements resides on Chicago's South Side.
