Spring through fall, The BALSAMS entices with a wide range of recreational activities. In addition, the concierge can arrange numerous age-appropriate, adventure activities including horseback riding, mountain biking, white water rafting and kayaking, ropes course, guided fly fishing trips and moose safaris.

In winter, New England's most reliable snow conditions and an extensive trail network create unparalleled cold weather recreation. Recognized as one of the top cross country skiing destinations in the country, The BALSAMS offers 95 kilometers of trails for skating and riding. Alpine skiers will find the on-site Wilderness Ski Area a delight with 16 trails and five glades with runs up to one-mile long. Families in particular will enjoy that all trails begin at the top of the lift and end at the base lodge, making it easy to reconnect after runs. A staffed nursery facility, for children ages 6 months to 5 years, is available at the Base Lodge.

Through The BALSAMS' Nordic Center, guests may enjoy complimentary use of figure and hockey skates for use on the resort's private rink and snowshoes for touring on designated trails. For a memorable family outing in winter, touring by dog sled or horse drawn sleigh may be arranged through the concierge.

Under the direction of a full-time supervisor, The BALSAMS' children's program offers a wide range of fun-filled and educational activities. Camp Wind Whistle is a summertime favorite for guests ages five and above, offering events from breakfast through dinner that vary each day. Children may elect to participate in select activities designed for their peer group, like the popular Miss Manners class, or follow an entire day's schedule of exciting activities.
