Community "Cinderellas" at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel
LOS ANGELES, CA, October 28, 2005. Community "Cinderellas" Luz Rodr'iguez (17), Crystal Corrilo (16), Rocio Rodr'iguez (17), Natalie Corrilo (16), of Los Angeles and Eunice Hernandez (14) of San Fernando were treated to a special day out at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel on October 29, 2005.
The "Cinderellas" were chosen via outreach to community organizations and school counselors to find area Latina teens who excel in academics, are active in the community and help their families. The young ladies were honored as positive Latina teen role models at a "quincea~nera"- like event at the historic Pico House that included accolades from Los Angeles City Councilmember Wendy Greuel and LAUSD Board Member Jose Huizar. A "quincea~nera"is a traditional coming-of-age event for young girls in the Latino culture celebrating their entrance into womanhood.
The day's activities for the honorees included: beginning the day with a photo shoot at the historic El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, a special screening of Walt Disney's original animated Cinderella, which was held to celebrate the film's DVD debut; and being whisked off by limousine to a luxurious suite at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel where they were transformed into "princesses for a day" complete with their dream gown and crown.
Contributors to this special event included Walt Disney Home Entertainment, Millennium Biltmore Hotel, City of Los Angeles Commission on Children, Youth and Their Families, City Councilmember Wendy Greuel, Linda Novia Magazine, Like A Princess Gowns, Gold Coach Limousines and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
