Meoni Named Food and Beverage Director
VIRGINIA, November 10, 2005. The Homestead has named Gene Meoni director of food and beverage for the historic Virginia resort. The former food and beverage director of Stein Erikson Lodge in Park City, Utah, a five-diamond mountain luxury resort, assumed his new role on Aug. 29.
"Gene is a perfect fit for the food and beverage position," said Brett Schoenfield, president of The Homestead. "His knowledge will be a great asset to our growth and the elevation of our dining experience, and his vast understanding of the industry will be appreciated by the fantastic culinary staff we already have in place."
Meoni will oversee the daily operations of the numerous dining options available at The Homestead, from formal to casual, including the Dining Room, 1766 Grille, Casino Club, Sam Snead's Tavern, The Wine Room, Mountain Lodge Restaurant, Cascades Club, The Presidents Lounge, The Player's Pub, and The Great Hall. In addition, his responsibilities will include room service, banquets and convention services.
Meoni also worked with Hershey Entertainment and Resorts Company in Hershey, Pa., serving as the director of food and beverage for the lodge and convention center for seven years. From 1988 to 1997, he was with the 750-room Grand Traverse Resort in Michigan, where he directed the operation of 10 outlets, culinary operations, conference planning and banquets. Meoni has also worked for the Sheraton Corporation and The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
"When the opportunity to come to The Homestead presented itself, I jumped at the chance," Meoni said . "I've been waiting for a chance to return to the East Coast and work with a hotel that has a history of excellence."
Meoni earned his bachelor's degree in food service management, and an associate's degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University, where he also taught culinary arts. He is a member of the Club Managers Association of American and a Certified Food and Beverage Executive with the American Hotel and Motel Association.
