WASHINGTON, DC, November 23, 2005. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide regional VP Kevin Regan has testified on the effect of Hurricane Katrina before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.
Regan described Starwood's response in the days and weeks following the emergency in assisting guests, employees, and the community at large. Committee chairman Susan Collins (R-ME) and ranking member Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) said the hearing was intended to assess what the government might learn from the private sector's response in dealing with similar crises in the future.
Starwood was the only lodging company asked to testify. Other testimony was provided by IBM, Wal-Mart, and Mississippi Power & Light.
