NCL Demonstrates Its Dedication to Environmental Protection
EUROPEAN UNION, January 7, 2006. Norwegian Cruise Line has announced that it has launched an environmental programme to complement the onboard youth activities already available. Designed to educate young people about the importance of clean water and the effects of marine pollution and ways to prevent it, the Officer Snook Water Pollution Programme was launched in association with the Youth Environmental Programs, Inc. onboard Norwegian Jewel at the end of November. It will now be offered on all NCL and NCL America ships in 2006.
Elements of the programme are to be incorporated into the NCL Kid's Crew and will include activities for children of all ages: for kids aged two to five there will be an Undersea Hospital, story-telling, colouring books and games; for the pre-teens there will be crafts, a simulated 'Beach Clean Up' activity, a 'Catch or Release' game identifying endangered species and an environmental poster contest.
Francis Riley, General Manager of NCL in the UK, commented, "NCL is committed to the environment and to the oceans and this is a fun way for our young guests to learn about the importance of the ocean and its protection. This is a programme unique to the cruise industry and we are proud to be a partner promoting this important initiative. "
Jennifer Sevin, Youth Environmental Program's President, commented, "By incorporating the Officer Snook Programme on board their ships, NCL demonstrates a commitment to environmental protection by helping to educate others about the causes, effects and solutions to marine pollution."
