Hawthorn Supports Community With 'First Night Free' Emergency Housing
DULUTH, MN, February 28, 2006. The Hawthorn Suites http://hawthorn.com/ at Waterfront Plaza, located at 325 Lake Ave. South in Duluth's Historic Canal Park District, is offering a "First Night Free" emergency housing program for those forced to leave their homes due to fire, water, hail damage, gas leaks and other natural misfortunes.
Hawthorn Suites Duluth http://hawthornsuitesduluth.com/ has provided The City of Duluth Fire Department with complimentary coupons for one-night stays at the hotel for firefighters to give to members of the community who need a temporary housing at a difficult time. Displaced homeowners may also call the hotel directly at 1-218-727-4663 for details.
"Firefighters are at the front lines when members of our community need help," said George Hovland, General Manager of the hotel. "It makes sense that they be the ones to use our complimentary stay coupons at their discretion so displaced families can have a comfortable temporary home-away-from-home from which to plan their next steps." Commented City Councilor Jim Stauber, "With charitable community organizations such as Hawthorn Suites, no wonder Duluth is such a great place to live. This is one of the most thoughtful things you can do for victims of fire."
According to John Strongitharm, Fire Chief for the City of Duluth, "There are many fires and other tragedies in Duluth every year, and the victims could benefit significantly from an offer such as this. Organizations such as the Red Cross who typically help displaced victims are very appreciative of this type of immediate intervention. I commend Hawthorn Suites for taking such a proactive step to help members of our community."
