. October 14, 2008

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, March 16,2006. Argentina continues to grow in the UK market as a favourite long haul tourist destination. In 2005, the growth of UK arrivals through Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires increased by 17.3 per cent in comparison with 2004. According to official figures, the number of UK arrivals was 46,650, compared with 39,772 in 2004.

What is particularly impressive is that in January 2006, the hottest month of the year in Argentina, the number of UK tourists rose by 30.2% compared with 2004, making the UK the best perfoming country in Europe and the second in the World (after Brazil) in terms of tourists visiting Argentina.

The data also shows that UK tourists stay an average of 15.4 days in Argentina (higher than the 12.2 days international average), and that 66.9% of the British travellers stay in 4 or 5 stars hotels.

The Argentine Vice-Minister for Tourism, Sr. Guillermo Brooks, said: "We are delighted with the results for 2005. This is a direct outcome to the increased investment we have put behind our 'Tourism Argentina' campaign in the UK. British travellers love Argentina, as it is a country that offers adventure, beautiful scenery, and sport, but also the nightlife, culture and the European style of Buenos Aires"

After a strong record in 2005 with also a record of direct investment in the sector of above 1.7 billion pounds, the country's turnover in the tourism sector is continuing to grow, and now accounts for 8% of GDP.
