Canada Media Award Winners 2005
CANADA, July 6, 2005. The Canadian Tourism Commission and industry partners: Travel Alberta, Tourism British Columbia, Destination Quebec, , Nova Scotia Tourism, Ontario Tourism, Yukon Tourism and Fairmont Hotels announced the winners of the 2005 Canada Media Awards on Friday July 1st, at the St. Stephens Club.
Winner of the 'Best Consumer Article', was Ingrid Tarrant for an article about the Yukon, which was published in the Daily Mail Weekend Section. 'Best Ski Article' was presented to Sarah Baxter, of Wanderlust magazine, for her article about cross country skiing in the province of Quebec. 'Discover Canada', an award for writing that covered an unknown part of Canada or a holiday idea that the consumer might not have thought about before was awarded to Andy Beaven for an article about sea kayaking in Nova Scotia. This article was featured in Wanderlust and the award was collected on the writers behalf by Lyn Hughes of Wanderlust Magazine. BBC Holiday won the award for 'Best Television or Radio Broadcast' for their report about skiing at Mont Tremblant and lastly, The Daily Telegraph travel team were presented with an award for an 'Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion of Canada'.
Winners were presented with a specially commissioned whale tail sculpture and both winners and runners up also received a piece of Antler luggage to take with them on their travels.
Over 50 guests were in attendance at the summer barbecue which marked Canada Day with each guest receiving a special Canada Day corsage on arrival. Bison burgers were on the menu and Canadian wines flowed all afternoon - as did the chocolate fountain. On departure all guests were presented with a candle featuring First Nation interpretations of a whale to thank them for their stories, reports and tales.
