Cancun Completes Beach Restoration
CANCUN, Mexico, Arpril 24, 2006. The $21 million project to restore seven miles of Cancun's beach, following its destruction last October by Hurricane Wilma, has been completed.
According to Tourism Minister Rodolfo Elizondo, the beach-restoration project was carried out by a Belgian engineering firm, Jan De Nul Group. It involved recovering a 25-meter (82-foot) strip of beach per day on average. The project has given "a new face" to this Caribbean resort city, representing an "unprecedented achievement in this area of work in Mexico."
