Spotlight on... Cancun and Riviera Maya
Six members of The Leading Hotels of the World welcome guests back to a revived Caribbean playground
NEW YORK, NY, June 26, 2006. The devastating hurricane season of 2005 took its toll all around the Gulf of Mexico, but the six members of The Leading Hotels of the World in Cancun and the Riviera Maya are all welcoming guests again with open arms.
Each of the more than 600 junior and master suites at Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach looks out over the ocean, in the recreational and commercial heart of Cancun. A complimentary on-site children's club allows parents to play a round of golf on the nearby Robert Trent Jones, Jr.-designed course, or to indulge in a few spa treatments.
Gran Melia Cancun - Royal Service offers 132 upgraded rooms and suites, just 15 minutes from the airport. A painstaking beach recovery project has restored the expanses of beachfront lost to last fall's storms. To ensure guest comfort, there is a new private Royal Service pool area with Balinese style huts, as well as a spectacular new spa. The Mexican restaurant has been completely renovated and there is now a sushi lounge in the main atrium.
The 213-room Le Meridien Cancun Resort & Spa*, with something for every member of the family, is flanked by the Caribbean on one side and the Laguna de Nichupte on the other. Parents can relax in the expansive 15,000-square-foot spa while children are well looked after in the Penguin Club. Together, they can enjoy the swimming pools, tennis courts and the pristine beach.
At the all-inclusive Paradisus Riviera Cancun - Royal Service*, the Reef Grill restaurant was completely renovated - and a new deck has been installed. Situated 25 minutes from Cancun in Puerto Morelos along the Riviera Maya, the resort offers guests a 5,000-foot-long expanse of protected Caribbean beachfront. As at its sister property, Gran Melia Cancun, the Royal Service sections are now for adults only.
Paraiso de la Bonita Resort & Thalsso* has also taken advantage of the opportunity to refresh and renew portions of the property. The hotel - which was the first thalassotherapy center to open in North America - features 90 exceptionally spacious suites - each individually designed and decorated. The sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi areas of the spa will undergo additional renovations from June 26 through July 11.
The all-inclusive, 200-room Royal Hideaway Playacar lies 45 minutes south of the Cancun Airport in scenic Playa del Carmen along the Riviera Maya. The two- and three-story villas reflect a fusion of Spanish and Mexican colonial architecture, and winding rivers and waterfalls connect the main building to the villas. Guests can enjoy a full range of water sports on site, while golf, skydiving, scuba diving and parasailing are all available nearby.
