Novotel Yogyakarta Reopens After Earthquake
Gives Tourism in Central Java a Boost
BANGKOK, Thailand, August 9, 2006. Novotel Yogyakarta is re-opening on August 14 after renovation, adding another positive sign that the earthquake stricken area of central Java is quickly getting back on its feet.
The renovations were scheduled prior to the 27 May earthquake when the hotel suffered only minor damage. Following the quake Novotel Yogyakarta closed to accelerate the pace of renovation.
The US$2 million refurbishment covers all rooms, corridors and facade that are expected to be completely finished in October. New wooden floors have been added to guest rooms, the interior design includes new furniture upholstery, completely new beds and bedding, wall coverings, televisions and lamp shades. The first 88 room will be ready on 14 August with the remaining 112 rooms expected to be completed by early October.
All public areas are being freshened up, as has the hotel's exterior, new kitchen flooring has been installed and work is being done on the electrical, air conditioning and plumbing systems.
During the renovation the hotel has also embarked on its largest ever training program for staff to complement the new facilities. According to President Director Accor Indonesia, Gerard Guillouet, the newly renovated Novotel Yogyakarta will add much needed room inventory to the region that lost several hotels during the quake. "We are very pleased to reopen the hotel and finish the renovations so soon after the earthquake. The second batch of rooms will be ready by the start of the high season, giving Yogyakarta a timely boost as it continues its recovery," Mr Guillouet said.
"The newly renovated rooms will offer guests added comfort and convenience and will cater to both business travellers and leisure tourists as travel to central Java increases."
Novotel Yogjakarta has two restaurants serving a selection of international and regional cusine, two bars, business centre with secretarial support, swimming pool, fitness centre and Kids Club.
